Current and Planned Work:

Nighttime Lane Closure and Traffic Shift – Santa Rosa at Cesar Chavez

As part of the Zona Cultural Streets Project, crews will be removing two (2) existing traffic signal pole foundations located at the northeast and southeast corners of the intersection of Santa Rosa and Cesar Chavez. To minimize impacts to traffic and pedestrians, this work will take place overnight, beginning at 9:00pm on Monday, June 23, 2025, and is expected to be completed by 3:00am on Tuesday, June 24, 2025.

Traffic Impact – Southeast corner of Santa Rosa at Cesar Chavez and Northeast corner of Santa Rosa at Cesar Chavez

• Eastbound Cesar Chavez at Santa Rosa will be fully closed during this time.
• Eastbound Cesar Chavez detour route will be south on Santa Rosa, east on El Paso, North on S. Flores to Cesar Chavez
• Courtyard parking lot access will be from S. Flores to Cesar Chavez, during the brief Eastbound Santa Rosa Closure
• Northbound Santa Rosa at Cesar Chavez will be fully closed during this time; including the Santa Rosa & Graham intersection. 
• Bill Miller parking lot access will be from S. Flores to Graham, during the brief Northbound Santa Rosa Closure
• A traffic shift will be implemented to safely route vehicles around the work zone.
• Detour routes will be clearly marked, and all construction areas will be secured with appropriate barricades and signage.
• Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout the operation.

Please be advised that all work is weather permitting. We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we work to improve the infrastructure in the Zona Cultural District.

Commerce Street (Laredo to Frio)

• Commerce Street (Pecos to Frio): Irrigation work is ongoing, and approximately 95% of landscape improvements are complete. CPS Energy is expected to finish transformer installation, which is required before the contractor can complete lighting and signal systems. Two westbound traffic lanes are currently open, and pedestrian access will be maintained.
• Commerce Street (San Saba to Pecos – North Side): One westbound traffic lane is open. Provisions are in place to accommodate pedestrian movement.
• Commerce Street (Santa Rosa to San Saba – North Side): Pedestrian access will be maintained, with routes provided to the Mercado/Farmers Market and Milam Park.

San Saba (Nueva to Houston)

• San Saba (Nueva to Dolorosa): Remaining work includes the completion of lighting and signals, irrigation and landscaping, sidewalk installation, final paving, and placement of site amenities.
• San Saba (Dolorosa to Commerce): Full Road Closure: Raised planters have been installed. Work continues on irrigation, landscaping, and site amenities. Pedestrian access to the Mercado/Farmers Market and Milam Park will be maintained.
• San Saba (Commerce to Houston): Brick paver installation is underway, along with irrigation, landscaping, lighting, and signal work. Pedestrian routes to Mercado/Farmers Market and Milam Park will be provided.
• San Saba (North of Houston): West side roadway reconstruction is in progress, including trench repairs and the replacement of curbs, sidewalks, and driveways. At least one northbound lane will remain open to ensure business and pedestrian access.

Santa Rosa (Cesar Chavez to Martin)

• Santa Rosa (Cesar Chavez to Dolorosa): Sidewalk, driveway, and remaining brick paver installations are ongoing. Irrigation and landscaping work is underway, followed by lighting and signal system installations. Access to the Public Safety Headquarters, Bill Miller's, the Federal Building, and the Washington Square Building will remain open.
• Santa Rosa (Dolorosa to Commerce): Work includes SAWS sanitary sewer installation and completion of SAWS water lines, along with CPS electric conduit installation. Road excavation and subgrade preparation will follow. Access to Goodwill and nearby businesses will remain open throughout.
• Santa Rosa (Commerce to Houston): Full Road Closure: Work in this section includes the installation of concrete sidewalks, driveways, irrigation, landscaping, lighting, signal systems, and fiber conduit.
• Santa Rosa & Commerce Intersection (North Side): Brick paver installation and utility adjustments are in progress. Pedestrian access to Mercado/Farmers Market and Milam Park will be maintained.
• Santa Rosa (Houston through Travis): Work includes concrete repairs associated with SAWS sanitary sewer installation, installation of concrete median and associated trench repairs.
• Nueva & Santa Rosa Intersection: Ongoing work includes brick paver installation, utility adjustments, signalization, and landscaping.
