Project Update 12/4/24: 

South Alamo and East Nueva Street - Intersection Closure

The east half of the E. Nueva Street and S. Alamo intersection will be closed for construction of drainage improvements.  The closure will begin as early as  December 16, 2024 and is anticipated to be complete by mid-February 2025 (Updates will be provided as necessary). There will be access to Magik Theatre and the Hemisfair Park from Hemisfair Blvd and E. Nueva Street. This closure will not impact the western half of the intersection, and there will continue to be two open lanes on Nueva heading west to S. Presa.  The closure will have an impact in the area, but detour and alternate routes will allow for access to businesses in the area.  All construction areas will be marked by barricades and road closure signs. Detours around the road closure will be clearly marked and posted and be in effect for the duration of the closure. All work is weather permitting. We apologize for any inconvenience. Project Update:

Current and planned work:

• Drainage Work
  • ​Continuing installation of drainage structures on east side of S.Alamo from Cesar Chavez to Nueva. Currently working in front of Magik Theatre.
    • Driveway at Magik Theatre Parking Lot to be temporarily closed from December 10 through December 14, 2024. Access to be provided on East Nueva. 
  • Preparing for underground bore for drainage structures under the Nueva intersection starting December 16, 2024 thru February 2025.
  • The eastern entrance of Nueva & S Alamo will be fully closed for the duration of this work. 
• ​Chilled Water Work​
  • In front of La Villita, beginning backfill, trench restoration and asphalt repair.
  • At the western Nueva & S. Alamo intersection, the trench remains open for testing and tie-in of completed chilled water system.  
    • Mid-block crosswalk to be installed to facilitate pedestrian access at the western intersection.   
  • Chilled water tie-in continues at Monarch Hotel, eastside of South Alamo.
  • Installing chilled water improvements in front of the Hilton Hotel.
  • Backfill and restoration of all chilled water work areas scheduled for late-December 2024 after testing and cleaning of the system is complete. 
• CPS Underground Electric​
  • Installing CPS duct bank on the eastside of South Alamo by the Monarch Hotel, heading north.
• ​Sewer Work​
  • Installation of manhole and sewer line in front of the Prost Haus is scheduled to start in early January 2025.
    • Villita Street will remain open. Construction deliveries at La Villita will be occasional during construction hours and flagged by the contractor as needed.  
    • In January 2025, pedestrian traffic will be detoured to the eastside of S. Alamo. 
• ​​General Information​
  • Business and pedestrian access provided on South Alamo.
  • South Alamo will continue to have single southbound traffic lane thru end of project. Arciniega Street continues to be closed, and on Market Street, three eastbound lanes are open to through traffic.
  • Final Four planning is in progress to accommodate the heavy pedestrian use and traffic on S. Alamo during the events. Police presence is currently planned for all three intersections within the project limits.

South Alamo & Nueva Eastern Section Closure
