Jo Marie Area Drainage Improvements Phase 1
Jo Marie Area Drainage Improvements Phase 1
In 1975, site inspection by staff noted the area within the subdivision was flat with shallow swales that conveyed storm water from WW White Rd. to Jo Marie. The current drainage system on Jo Marie includes earthen swales with driveway culverts, with some swales being well defined too non-existent. A June 2015 311 inquiry from 219 Jo Marie noted the drainage swale did not allow proper drainage. Existing driveway culverts and roadside swales are inadequately sized and contribute to ponding of storm water in yards and/or nuisance ponding during rain events.
Original scope involved the lining of the roadside swales with concrete to collect and convey storm runoff to a proposed outfall located southwest of Jo Marie. Based on a Preliminary Engineering Report (PER) completed in May 2019, it was determined that through the installation of boxes/pipes in the locations of the swales, the steep swales would no longer be needed. Furthermore, the underground storm system would lend itself to Phase 2, a future street reconstruction that could include curbs and curb inlets, currently programmed for FY 2024.
