Phase 1: COMPLETE
Pedestrian improvements to the intersection of W Hildebrand Ave & Howard St.
- Estimated Construction Timeline: as early as July 13-through August 2026
- Traffic Impacts: intermittent lane closures. Two-way traffic will be maintained.
- Scope: new pedestrian signals, audible pedestrian push buttons, ADA ramp upgrades

Phase 2: repaving and striping of W. Hildebrand Ave. from Belknap St. to McCullough Ave.
- Estimated Construction Timeline: September 2026
- Traffic Impacts: intermittent lane closures. Two-way traffic will be maintained.
- Scope: street rehabilitation, delineator curb extensions, new pavement markings which includes one travel lane in each direction with a center turn lane (3 lanes total) from Belknap Pl to McCullough Ave.

September 14, 2026 Update:
Hildebrand repaving is complete! Over the coming weeks, two-way traffic will be maintained as crews make utility adjustments and install delineators and permanent pavement markings for one travel lane in each direction with a center turn lane (3 lanes total). The reflective "tabs" you see on the road now are temporary until permanent striping can be installed.
August 28, 2026 Update:
The first phase of construction is wrapping up, and we're now preparing to transition into Phase 2. This next phase will involve street work across the entire project limits, including new delineator curb extensions and pavement markings.
The asphalt work should take only one day and is scheduled for September 4th. On this day, Hildebrand will be closed to traffic from (just east of) San Pedro to (just west of) McCullough. See detour map below.
The remaining timeline covers the paint markings and any other miscellaneous items the contractor may need to complete, during which Hildebrand will be open to traffic.

Hildebrand & Howard intersection improvements
August 14, 2026 Update:
Construction is currently underway at the intersection of Hildebrand Avenue and Howard Street and is expected to be complete by the end of August 2026.
Once intersection work wraps up, street improvements will continue along Hildebrand Avenue between Belknap Place and McCullough Avenue. This phase is anticipated to begin and conclude within September 2026. This phase includes repaving the roadway and new pavement markings for one travel lane in each direction with a center turn lane (3 lanes total).
In addition, San Antonio Water System (SAWS) has scheduled its own planned work along Hildebrand Avenue between McCullough Avenue and Devine Road, also set to begin in September 2026.
