Complete Streets
Complete Streets
A Complete Streets Approach focuses on designing and building safer streets for everyone including those who walk, bike, use a wheelchair, use public transportation, and drive. In September 2024, the City of San Antonio updated its Complete Streets Policy. NOW we are creating a Complete Street Design Guide which anyone can use to design a Complete Street. The Design Guide will include infrastructure recommendations, street types, and a prioritization of recommendations.
We need your help developing some types of streets for the Design Guide. Each of these types of streets (called "typologies") has a different job and is designed differently to handle the traffic and activity that happens on them. Right now we have 6 draft street types to consider:
- Rural roads for agricultural land use
- Park streets in and around recreation and open spaces
- Neighborhood streets in single family neighborhoods
- Connector streets surrounded by commercial businesses and big parking lots
- Industrial streets surrounded warehouses and manufacturing
- Primary/Main streets surrounded by a mix of businesses, housing, entertainment, and lots of foot traffic.
