Summer Youth Program Self-Monitoring Standards Public Comment Opportunity
The San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department invites the community to comment on self-monitoring standards for its Summer Youth Program at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, March 25, 2024, at City Tower Concourse Conference Room A, 100 W. Houston Street at the Parks and Recreation Board Meeting.
The Summer Youth Program is offered at various school sites and 18 community centers from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on weekdays during the summer months. Children ages 6 to 12 at the school sites and 6 to 14 at the community centers participate in traditional sports, active games, craft projects, fitness activities, nutrition lessons, reading, and enrichment activities in math and science. They receive meals as part of the program provided by the City.
Self-monitoring is used in lieu of State licensing for municipal programs and is authorized by State Regulations of Child Care Facilities. Guidelines cover record keeping, staff qualifications, staffing ratios, responsibilities and training, safety procedures and emergency procedures. After receiving comments from the public, the Parks and Recreation Department will take the self-monitoring standards to the City Council for approval.
Parking in the City Tower Parking Garage is validated for up to two hours for those who sign up to speak.
If a visitor parks within the City Tower Parking Garage, any of the elevators within the parking structure will allow access directly to the Concourse Level. There is a Security Officer detail in place at the Concourse elevators to conduct the needed security screening and visitor check in.
Sign up to speak in person at the start of the meeting or provide written comments (up to 300 words) via email by 4:00 p.m. on the date of the meeting to [email protected]. Please include full name and address.
