Background
Councilwoman Phyllis Viagran has submitted a recommendation that the Southside Lions Community Center and Gym be named Ramon V. Quintero Community Center.
The naming of the community center and gym is to recognize Mr. Quintero’s long-time civic leadership and his dedication to improving the quality of life for San Antonians, specifically those in City Council District 3. He was instrumental in the founding of the Sunny Slope/Pasadena Heights Neighborhood Association in 1982 and led efforts to get the gym built at the Southside Lions Community Center. Mr. Ramon V. Quintero was a World War II Veteran who served in the United States Army from 1941-1945 in the Fiji Islands.
The naming of the facility at Southside Lions Community Center will serve as a timeless memory of his advocacy and his invaluable contributions for the city and his community.
