Cassiano Park - 2022-2027 Bond Project
Cassiano Park - 2022-2027 Bond Project
Land for Cassiano Park was first acquired in 1898 when the City had begun to build public playgrounds. In May 1918 with the playground under construction, the park was named after Jose Cassiano notably a “leader in the civic and political life of San Antonio” for 30 years. The park was popular for Diez y Seis celebrations and in 1923, Council approved construction of a swimming pool.
Cassiano Park is a recreational park edged by The Apache Creek Greenway and the intersection of S. Zarzamora and Potosi Streets. Existing amenities include a pool, pool bath house, large pavilion with dining tables, covered basketball court with bleachers, playground, permanent restrooms, and parking. Park neighbors have expressed a need for updated pool facilities and other updates throughout the park.
Scope for this project is a conceptual master plan resulting in design and construction of improvements to Cassiano Park. The Design Team will be holding a public input meeting on April 23, 2022, to learn more about what the neighbors feel should be improved in the park.
