2011

The 2011 San Antonio Bicycle Master Plan & Implementation Strategy, led by the City of San Antonio’s Office of Environmental Policy, was adopted by San Antonio City Council on September 29, 2011.

$150,000 was subsequently allocated for plan implementation.

2016

Annual funding of $1,000,000 for Bike Infrastructure Maintenance Plan (Bike  IMP) begins.

2022

The 2011 Bicycle Master Plan eventually required an update to enhance safety & accessibility, so $2.7 million was allocated in the FY 2022 Budget to update the 2011 Bike Master Plan into the Bike Network Plan (BNP).

2023

Bike Network Plan data collection begins:

• Audit of existing conditions / assessment of bike facility Inventory
• Launch map-based survey to San Antonio residents
• Initiate meetings with transportation partners and stakeholders

BNP Phase I

Phase 1 of the BNP is completed. The public gave insight into their bike riding habits, their desire to ride bikes, and whether they'd consider other modes of transportation in getting to work, school, or other activities.

BNP Phase II

Phase 2 of the BNP is completed. The public was asked to contribute to a brief survey to better understand what kind of bike infrastructure is preferred, as well as potential solutions to biking issues in San Antonio.

BNP Phase III

Phase 3 of collecting input from the public is complete. This phase involved highlighting key connection points between bike riders, future bike riders, and their destinations.

Phase 4: Analyze the data

Using the data and public input, the Transportation Department is designing a comprehensive, safe, comfortable bike network for the City to be recommended to the City Council by early 2025.

Bike Network Plan (BNP) is accepted by City Council! There will be an implementation component to the plan to guide future funding and bond efforts in street and bicycle facilities.
