Concepcion Creek Phase 1 Detention Pond(s)
More than 2,200 structures are now in harm’s way in the floodplain of the Concepcion Creek watershed. The Federal Emergency Management Agency is updating its floodplain map to add nearly 1,900 more structures to the floodplain. A 100-year flood event would cause severe flooding to these structures. Even in the absence of damaging floods, homes in a floodplain are devalued due to national floodplain regulations and a requirement for many homeowners to have flood insurance. The City is considering three options to remove structures from harm's way. These options would use a combination of channels, underground systems, and detention. Each of these options would require the relocation of fewer than 160 homes. See documents below for more information.
