Pothole Patrol
Pothole Patrol
2024 marked the 8th Annual Pothole Patrol Blitz campaign!
We challenged residents to help us reach our goal of locating and fixing 10,000 potholes in the month of April by calling 3-1-1 or by reporting potholes through the 311sa app. Exclusive Pothole Patrol Fiesta Medals were distributed at various pop-events throughout the month.
- Our hard-working Public Works field staff ultimately filled 14,588 total potholes in April, 2024! That’s 46% higher than our goal!
Pothole Patrol Program
The San Antonio Pothole Patrol is managed by the Public Works Streets Division.
San Antonio’s extremely hot weather, followed by bouts of rain, causes the expansion and contraction of asphalt. This process creates the perfect conditions for water to seep into the asphalt and create potholes.
Each pothole takes roughly 20 minutes to repair and costs about $35.
- In 2023, residents made more than 4,600 calls to the City’s 311 hotline to report potholes. That's roughly 5% of the total potholes Public Works repaired throughout 2023.
- Fourteen Pothole Patrol crews fixed approximately 333 potholes each day.
- District 2 reports the most potholes and tends to have the most.
- District 9 reports the least and tends to have the least.
- Summer is a better time of the year to fix potholes, however, we do fix potholes all year round. The worst time is during extreme inclement weather.
- In addition to reports from the community, PWD has a proactive investigator searching for potholes in each district all year round. The investigator creates a list of all the repairs, which is then distributed to the patch trucks for repair.
